Aaron Wade (19) takes victory in Spain in first race for over six months | Video

Aaron Wade on top of the podium after Trofeu Garden Hotels in Alcudia, Mallorca, earlier today

Aaron Wade has been back in race action for the first
time in over six months, taking victory from a breakaway in his first outing of
the year.

The former Irish junior international has been based in
Mallorca of late and claimed victory there today in Trofeu
Garden Hotels in Alcudia.

The road racing scene on the island
is always competitive as Mallorca is a Mecca for cyclists, including international
track riders and emerging young road riders.

That ensures there is always plenty of talent in the local road races, with victories always hard to achieve.

Irish teenager Wade (Powerhouse
Sport) initially missed the boat in today’s 112km race, over two laps of a
local circuit; a breakaway getting clear off the front without Wade in it.

However, the young Irish rider took
the initiative and got across the gap on his own to join those out front.

And from that point the leaders, who
got clear about 20km into the race, worked together to establish a gap and
survive out front to the finish.

At the end of the contest the
honours came down to a sprint between the breakaway men, with Wade (19) surfing
the wheels nicely in the gallop and proving too strong for the others he was
with.
