Fabio Silvestre, from Portugal and riding for Leopard Trek CT, takes today’s stage at the Tour de Normandie
Aaron Buggle (Rapha Condor JLT) has had another turn of bad luck today on the second stage of the Tour de Normandie, when he was among a number of fallers during a crash with 4km remaining as the peloton was ramping up the speed hurtling into Forges-les-Eaux.
The Irish professional was at the head of the field when the crash occurred. Not only did he sustain road rash but he was then forced to wait a prolonged period for a replacement bike so he could complete the stage. To compound matters further, because the spill occurred outside the 3km to go marker, he was not credited with the same time as the peloton he was with when he fell and instead lost over six minutes.

His crash today comes just two months after a spill at the Herald Sun Tour in Australia saw him sustain a nasty elbow injury and forced him off the bike for a period. He at least has the consolation that today’s injuries were nowhere near as serious and having completed the stage he is set to start tomorrow.
