A4 fight for final yellow wide open after two stages at Charleville Two Day

Stephen Bourke of Limerick Cycling Club has seized the
yellow jersey at the A4 Charleville Two Day after the first two, of three,
stages were completed today.

This morning’s road stage ended in a big bunch sprint,
with the vast majority of the riders finishing on the same time. And that meant
the GC after the opening day has been completely dictated by the results of
this afternoon’s TT.

Limerick’s Bourke made no mistake in the 6.17km TT,
stepping up to win the stage in a time of 8:12. He was six seconds up on Matteo
Manassero of Blarney Cycling Club, with Shaun Barnicle of Western Lakes CC in 3rd
at 12 seconds.

During the opening stage – an 86km road race – aggression
from the main pack failed to split the race and David Murphy (Blarney Cycling
Club) took the victory in a sprint after 2¼ hours of racing.

Murphy got the verdict from Stephen Crowley of Galway Bay
Cycling Club, with Frank Doherty of Killarney Cycling Club rounding out the
podium.

The lack of any time gaps in the opening road race stage –
31 of the 39 finishers on the same time – means the general classification
going into tomorrow’s final stage is the same as the TT stage result today;
Bourke leading by six seconds from Manassero and Barnicle 3rd at 12 seconds.

Interestingly, Galway Bay’s Crowley was the most consistent across today’s two stages; picking up 2nd on stage 1 and 4th in the TT. Those results suggest he’s one to watch tomorrow. Indeed, with 1:30 covering the top 30 it’s anyone’s race going into the final day of action.
