Second only to the Tour de France in terms of size and prestige, the three-week Giro d'Italia will come to our shores next month.

The Grande Partenza, or 'Big Start', will take place in Belfast and Dublin from May 9th and will attract some of the world's best professionals to Ireland.

Two stages - an opening team time trial and a road stage - will be held in Northern Ireland, with stage three starting in Armagh and traveling through Louth, Meath and Dublin before finishing in the heart of the city in Merrion Square.

With over half a million spectators anticipated along the route, Cycling Ireland is currently looking for volunteers to help out on stage 3 of the Giro.

The national governing body will be offering marshal training and information to volunteers over the coming weeks.

Once trained up, these marshals will receive an official endorsement on their licence from 2015, and will be able to avail of opportunities to marshal at other big events such as the European Marathon MTB Championships in Ballyhoura in June.
