Romain Guyot in his Europcar kit during a trial with the French pro squad at the end of last season.
Young French cyclist Romain Guyot, who had ridden for a time with the Europcar pro team last season, has been killed while training.
Having just turned 23 years old, he was killed outright when struck by a lorry on a training ride in France on Thursday near Roche-Sur-Yon.
Local reports suggest the truck pulled level with him while he was on his bike alone at an intersection and that the driver apparently did not see Guyot and fatally hit him.
While the emergency services were called to the scene the Vendée-U team member was pronounced dead.
Having ridden as a stagiaire with Europcar in the second half of last year, Guyot’s hopes of a major pro contract were still very much intact.
Reports in the French media suggest he had been training with a group earlier on Thursday.
But he had continued alone to do some extra training after separating from those he was with and was killed while riding solo.
