In his pomp riding for the US-based pro team 7-Eleven, with whom he would win some major races during a long career that saw him ride with a number of pro outfits.
Back in the day he was a top criterium rider on the US pro scene. He enjoyed his pomp in an era when the sport was being wrestled from the control of Continental Europeans by the likes of his 7 Eleven team and in the years just before he turned pro by American legend Greg Lemond, Scotland's Robert Millar, Australia's Phil Anderson and indeed our own Sean Kelly and Stephen Roche.
Dubliner John Brady's story is a hidden one to most, perhaps because he plied his traded in the US, rarely racing in Ireland or representing his country once he made that leap to the crit scene in America.
Now aged 49 years, he's clearly still keeping in good shape and of late has been turning up in Ireland riding on the ever growing Irish Veteran Cyclists' Association (IVCA) scene.
Most of its races are in north Co Dublin and Co Meath, with Brady taking victory in his age category just a couple of weeks ago in Batterstown.

He was a professional rider in the US for nine years between 1989 and 1995 and again in 2002, continuing to ride in the seasons between on the US circuit but with slightly smaller teams.
He also won some very big races, enjoying 15 victories on the top flight American scene, as well as taking wins in slightly smaller events.
One of those was the Jack Woodcock Memorial held in the Phoenix Park, Dublin. It was contested at the start of the season until bike racing was banned from the park to make way for cars. He claimed that during one of few racing outings in his native Ireland.
We'll catch up with Brady for a chat soon, but in the mean time have a look at his main career biog details below.
