French professional cyclist Yoann Offredo has been fined in court after a judge ruled he attacked people in a car.

In April he posted photos of himself bloodied after a training ride.

He said he had been attacked while he was out training. However, a French court has ruled it was he who attacked those he clashed with.

The judge imposed a suspended fine of €400 the Wanty Groupe Gobert rider. And he was ordered to pay €300 in damages.

Another cyclist was also sanctioned to the tune of a €200 suspended fine. And the driver of the vehicle incurred a €700 suspended fine.

The French media has reported that the court found a car carrying a driver and passenger brushed against Offredo.

However, from there the matter escalated into a physical altercation.

In April he said he had gone training and been attacked while riding with two others.

He summed up his injuries thus: “A fractured nose, a rib in a dirty state and bruises on the whole body. Nut beyond the wounds physical, I'm mostly shocked.

“I'm not angry, I'm just sad to see that this beautiful sport I love. I don't want my kids to practice... too dangerous.

“You leave in the morning for practice, but you never know if you're going home. Just sad to see that in the country of human rights, the rights of cyclists are ignored.”
