After major successes on the big stage, Xeno Young has beaten off opposition from across sport to claim a major Irish award. He collected medals last year on the world and European stage riding in the green of Ireland.
Xeno Young wins Belfast Telegraph sports star award
Xeno Young has been voted Young Player of the Year at the Belfast Telegraph annual awards. They celebrate sporting achievements by athletes across the North.
Given the title of the award, the newspaper is clearly not used to honouring a cyclist.
It underlines the magnitude of Young's achievement in coming out on top.
Three-time World Superbike champion Jonathan Rea won the overall award for 2017.
Xeno Young represented Ireland on road and track last year. But it was on the velodrome where he really shone.
He claimed silver medals in the individual pursuit at the World Track Championships and at the Europeans.
He was presented with his award at a ceremony in Belfast last night.
From Hillsbrough, the 18-year-old has already broken into the Irish elite track team in recent months.
He rode the individual pursuit at the final round of the UCI World Cup in Minsk two weeks ago.
Young has already secured selection for the Commonwealth Games on the Northern Ireland team.
He is expected to ride the pursuit, TT and road race events on the Gold Coast in April.
"I'm trying to enjoy it and I'm looking forward to racing against the big boys this year," he said.
"I just want to make a living out of cycling so that I can enjoy my job instead of going and working in an office.
"The feeling of going out and training and get it right, you feel good about yourself."
