World Champs set to clash with Tour de France as dates confirmed

The World Road Championships are set to take place in Switzerland and on their original dates in September despite the rest of the season having been rescheduled. It means the men's TT at the Worlds will be contested on the same day as the final stage of the Tour de France into Paris

The men’s TT at the World Road Championships will clash with the final stage of the Tour de France this year after the dates for the Worlds were confirmed by the UCI today.

While consideration was given to moving the Worlds to the Middle East, that plan is not going ahead and the Worlds will be held in their original location and dates; Aigle-Martigny in Switzerland from September 20th to 27th.

The delayed Tour de France is set to start in August 29th
will finish in Paris on September 20th, the same day as the men’s individual TT
at the Worlds.

Three days after the final day at the Tour and the Worlds
men’s TT, the pros will contest La Flèche Wallonne followed by the men’s Worlds
road race three days after that.

The U23 men’s TT will be held at the Worlds on September
21st followed by the women’s elite TT on the same day, with both junior TTs on
September 22nd. The mixed relay TT is being held on September 23rd, completing
the Worlds time trial races.

On Friday, September 25th, the women’s junior and men’s
U23 road races will take place, followed by the junior men’s and elite women’s
road races the following day at the men’s road race on Sunday, September 27th.

Grégory Devaud of the Aigle-Martigny World Championships organising committing said: "Over the last few months, we have not stopped working on the organisation of the 2020 UCI Road World Championships in Aigle-Martigny.

“Today, we are continuing to prepare for our event. We are very grateful for the trust from the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), local authorities, our sponsors, the huge number of volunteers that have registered and are very pleased about our cycling fans passion for our race and its exceptional circuit.  

“We need to remain cautious in view of the world health situation but the organisation of the Swiss Road Championships on August 22nd on our circuit is a strong sign that will validate our approach and help us fine-tune our procedures.”
