A woman was found unconscious and with life threatening injuries on a remote road at 4.30am on Sunday with a bicycle beside her.
The Police Service of Northern Ireland believes a woman found unconscious on a remote road in the early hours of Sunday morning may have been cycling in the area.
A bike was found next to the woman, who was seriously injured and is now fighting for her life in hospital.
It was unclear how long she had been in the road before she was discovered or where she had been going when she sustained her injuries.
The victim is believed to be in her 50s and was found lying on the Sheepland Road, Ardglass, Co Down, at around 4.30am.
The PSNI did not release any details about how the woman was found or who made the discovery.
At the time of writing it was also unclear if the investigating police officers knew the woman’s identity.
However, the PSNI confirmed she had been taken from the scene by ambulance to hospital and that her injuries were potentially life threatening.
It also confirmed a bicycle had been found beside the woman.
This had led officers to believe the victim had been cycling when she somehow sustained her injuries and lay unconscious in the road until she was found.
The police team investigating the case has appealed to anyone who may have been in the area early on Sunday or who may have any other information to come forward.
