Former elite international Mehall Fitzgerald announced his comeback to racing last evening, Tuesday, by taking victory in the latest round of the ‘Bike Worx Series’ at Mondello racing track in Co Kildare.

The renowned sprinter, who is back in training in recent months and has taken out an A3 licence, took a sprint win after the breeze blew apart the 61-man field. While the rain threatened, it managed to stay clear until the race was over.

It was Fitzgerald’s first win after six years away from racing. During a very fruitful career he was the best sprinter on the domestic scene, taking multiple stage wins the Ras and also lifting the national road race title and scores of other victories. He also represented Ireland at home and abroad more than 100 times.
