The Wicklow 200, Ireland’s premier cycling sportive, will return for its 39th year
on Sunday, June 7th.
A
real rite of passage for Irish cyclists and visitors from abroad, the Wicklow
200 it is being held on the same day as its partner sportive, the Wicklow 100
Challenge.
Both
start in Bray, Co Wicklow, and take in many of
the most iconic climbs in Ireland’s Garden County; a Mecca for riders from all
over the country for decades.
Pre-dating the cycling boom, but having flourished as cycling
has grown in popularity, the Wicklow 200 has evolved into a must-ride sportive
for racing and leisure cyclists alike.
In short; you’re not a real cyclist until you’ve
ridden the Wicklow 200. So get a group together, get your names down now and
start preparing.
Organisers of the event the Irish Veteran Cyclists Association who have run this sportive at a local level for many years are now partnering with Elite Event Management to grow the Wicklow 200 and bring more people to the region for this iconic cycle.

The
Wicklow 200 starts in Bray Emmet’s GAA Club and from there the route takes
riders up climbs that every Irish cyclist wants to tackle at some point; the
Wicklow Gap, Glenmalure, Slieve Maan and the famed Shay Elliott ascent.
You’ll
ride through the stunning and picturesque villages of Rathdrum, Baltinglass,
Enniskerry and Laragh amongst others.
The event organisers have teamed up with former pro cyclists Ronan McLoughlin and Philip Deignan of Panache Coaching.
Both
top class riders – Philip with Team Sky and Ronan as a former pro turned
leading amateur - will be sharing pro training plans, nutrition advice and
plenty of other practical advice in the build up to Wicklow 200.
When
you get to the end of your effort on the day, there will be a post-ride
celebration back in Bray Emmet’s.
All
riders will receive a customised medal, food and a dip in the Japanese hot
tubs.
There
will be plenty of entertainment on hand to keep the after-party going all day
and into the night.
Registration
is now open. Visit www.wicklow200.ie for further information and route details.
