Gardaí in Waterford are investigating an apparent arson attacked which has destroyed a large wooden sculpture along the Waterford Greenway.
The wooden sculpture of Ériu was completed destroyed by fire last Friday and now local gardaí have launched a criminal investigation into the attack. They are appealing for anyone who saw anything in the area at the time, or who have any other information, to come forward and help the inquiry.
The sculpture was installed last March in Carraiganore as part of a biodiversity project. It was created and installed by Special Brand Carvers.
The emergency services were alerted to the fire early last Friday morning, September 30th, and the blaze was brought under control by fire fighters at about 7.30am.
In Irish mythology, Ériu daughter of Delbáeth and Ernmas of the Tuatha Dé Danann, was the eponymous matron goddess of Ireland.
