With spectacular views over the sea, the Waterford Greenway is 45km long and is just about to open. And as these photos show, it's a thing of beauty.
The Waterford Greenway is very near complete and is set to open on March 25th, it has emerged. And as these photos reveal, it looks absolutely idyllic.
And determined to make the most of the new cycleway, Waterford County Council has decided to commission an oral history project of all of the points of interest along the way.
It is hoped the framing of the stories along the greenway route will add a living history to it that will appeal to visitors from overseas and indeed for those from other parts of Ireland not familiar with the history of the region.
And with the car parks along the route reportedly filled at times of the Christmas period, the amenity is already proving very popular.
Counters are to be placed along the route to keep track on numbers using the facility.
Waterford City & County Council had developed the old Waterford to Dungarvan railway line into a greenway.
The 23km stretch from Dungarvan to Kilmacthomas is already open with the remaining 22kms from Kilmacthomas to Waterford City opens in March, with the full facility officially opened on the 25th of that month.
It's a mix of coastal and inland routes with spectacular scenery along the way, all done on a hard surface perfect for cycling.
