Video: Young Irish rider and bike nearly blown away in gale force winds

Devin Shortt was in South Africa training earlier today in some pretty lively conditions

Devin Shortt got more that he bargained for while out training in South Africa earlier today; almost being blown away with his bike.

He stopped at one point to demonstrate just what the conditions were like, as the video below attests.

Shortt stood in the road holding his bike in one hand as it was carried on the breeze, such were the conditions.

However, he was still determined to get the miles in and did just over 120km in four hours.

Shortt, now aged 20 years, was the South African junior road race champion in 2016 and rode the junior road race at the Worlds that season and the following year, finishing both times.

He has since declared for Ireland and will be in contention for U23 selection for the next two years.

Shortt began racing for the Caja Rural U23 outfit towards the end of last season and will compete with the Spanish team again this year.

He will remain training in South Africa for the next couple of months before traveling to Europe in March to begin the new season.
