Video: Yellow jersey crashes descending during Paris-Nice stage 6 finale

Max Schachmann (Bora-Hansgrohe) gestures as he crosses the line in Apt after his late crash on Paris-Nice stage 6 today

Max Schachmann (Bora-Hansgrohe) crashed in the finale of today’s stage 6 at Paris-Nice but has held onto his yellow jersey.

The German overshot a right hander descending into the
finish and came off his bike. He was then delayed further when his bike slid away
from him and his chain appeared to derail.

However, as the incident occurred inside the final 3km he
was given the same time as the group he was with, which contained his main
rival for overall victory Sergio Higuita (EF Pro Cycling).

The stage into Apt in the south of France was won by Tiesj
Benoot (Team Sunweb) who attacked with about 13km remaining and after his team
had launched repeated efforts off the front during the stage.

Benoot hung on alone to win impressively by 22 seconds
from the small chasing group, which was led home by his team mate Michael
Matthews.
