Video: Van Poppel pulls off nuts save in Tour Suisse bunch sprint

Danny Van Poppel very nearly crashed in spectacular circumstances in the Tour de Suisse bunch sprint, but his save was simply incredible (enough though he was disqualified for dangerous riding).

Team Sky's Danny Van Poppel was going head-to-head with some of the best in the pro game in the bunch sprint at the Tour de Suisse today when he pulled off a spectacular save.

The Dutch speedster was 4th wheel rounding the final corner just 150metres from the line when he appeared to touch the wheel of race leader Peter Sagan (Tinkoff) who was going for this third stage in a row.

Van Poppel braked, with his back wheel shooting up into the air.

But while most riders would have lost it there and then, he somehow negotiated the corner and stayed in the saddle to save himself and those around him a very nasty crash.

Have a look at the clips below and see what you think - he deserves a medal for this one.

Incredibly not everyone was as impressed.

Van Poppel was disqualified from the result for dangerous riding, with no mention of the idiot decision making that put a right hand bend so close to the line.
