Two streets in Dublin, before and after the cycling treatment; a terrific illustration by Dublin Cycling Campaign.

Cycling in Dublin transformed, how it should be done

Dublin Cycling Campaign has put together these two excellent clips showing how Dublin streets could be geared for cyclists.

Indeed, this is the kind of job that could be done on any Irish street.

They’ve picked Chesterfield Avenue in Dublin’s Phoenix Park and Newtown Ave & Main St in Blackrock, south Dublin.

The clips below show the streets as they are now; parked cars taking up lots of space with little regard for cyclists, especially in Phoenix Park.

However, the Dublin Cycling Campaign make-over really underlines the relatively simple work required to transform the streets for cyclists.

A series of flexi wands, signage and road markings reshapes the environment.

These clips really debunk the myth that allocating for cycling involves a huge volume of work and expenditure.

The campaign’s videos, we think you’ll agree, strongly suggest it’s more about the will to make simple changes than moving heaven and earth.
