A trucker has been sanctioned with a driving ban for a head-one near miss with a cyclist - who just happened to be an off-duty police officer.
To make matters worse for the truck driver, not only was the cyclist an off-duty police officer, he also happens to be proactive in encouraging cyclists to use cameras on their riders and send the police their clips of criminal driving.
The above clip was recorded in February 11th this year in Yorkshire, with the truck driver ignoring stop signs on the road and also taking a bend on the wrong side of the road despite the oncoming cyclist, Insp Kevin Smith.
The driver has now been convicted of dangerous driving. He was sanctioned with a 12-month driving ban and must undergo retesting before he can start driving again.
He must also perform 200 hours of community service and is obliged to pay £100 in compensation as well as £85 in costs and a £95 victim surcharge.
The clip of the incident has now been shared by South Yorkshire Police’s Sheffield Northwest Neighbourhood Policing Team, which is led by Insp Smith.
Terrifying isn't it? This is why I recommend people always ride with a camera. For this offence, no camera, and that driver would still be free to carry on risking other people's lives for his own convenience.

About 10 cmp and 28mm of rubber away from being under the wheels of an HGV, for no good reason. This is why we welcome third party reports and footage, they allow us to deal with the most dangerous drivers before they kill or maim someone.

Insp Smith told road.cc that if he had not gotten out of the way, and done so quickly by slowing down in advance, the outcome for him would have been very serious.
“Fortunately I had scrubbed off enough speed that I was able to put myself into the gap between the lorry and the dry stone wall which was literally centimetres. I did fall off sideways as you can see," he said.
“If I had continued to go straight on, rather than turning left, I would have gone under the wheels of this lorry – just as if I had lost traction and slid off I would again have been underneath.”
