Sam Bennett wins in France at the Critérium International in March. The 2016 campaign was followed by thrills and spills for our pro riders, much of it captured in this highlights clip.
With such good riders in the pro ranks in recent years we really have been spoilt for choice.
Dan Martin (Etixx-QuickStep) has had another great year, with Sam Bennett (Bora-Argon 18) also taking three victories despite a near season-ending spill at the start of the Tour de France.
Nicolas Roche of Team Sky came very close indeed to winning the Tour de Yorkshire and the Abu Dhabi Tour; finishing 2nd overall on both.
Roche also took a very popular victory in the road race and TT at the National Road Championships on Irish soil in June.
Philip Deignan (Team Sky) and Matt Brammeier (Dimension Data) both rode well at WorldTour level.
Ryan Mullen once again showed real flashes of why he is tipped so hotly by so many for the future; the Cannondale-Drapac pro’s 5th in the TT at the World Championships the result of his season.
And the likes of Eddie Dunbar (Axeon Hagens Berman), Michael O’Loughlin (Team Wiggins), Conor Dunne (JLT Condor) and Stephen Clancy (Novo Nordisk) as well as the An Post-Chainreaction team put in some superb riders during the year.
Some of that action is captured in this sweet little highlights video; enjoy!
