The video below depicts Japan's answer to its bike storage problem; a very impressive underground system where they are kept safe and dry.
The rider simply places their front wheel into place in a kiosk at ground level and lets the ingenious technology do the rest.
And when you come to retrieve your mount, the system identifies it from all the others and instantly brings it back up to ground level.

All you have to do is register on the system - in a similar fashion to the rental bike schemes in the Republic - and fit a small device to the bike you intend to park underground.
It allows the technology recognise your bike and to retrieve it for you when you want it back from its parking position.
The system has been around for a few years but we've never seen it in operation before now.
If ever there was an idea badly needed in Ireland, this is it!
