Video: Think disc brakes are dangerous? Take a look at this
Disc brakes have divided opinion ever since their introduction to the professional peloton.

The introduction of disc brakes into the professional peloton has polarised opinion.
There are as many observers in favour of the kit as there are against.
Currently, they are allowed to be used in the professional peloton.
Recently, debate around their use raised its head at the Abu Dhabi Tour.
Team Sky rider Owain Doull said his shoe was sliced by Marcel Kittel's disc brakes when they were among the fallers in a late crash.
“My shoe was cut to pieces; definitely a disc brake that has done that,” he said at the time.
“It’s gone straight through the shoe into my foot, it’s lucky that’s not my leg to be honest.
“If that’d been my leg it would have cut straight through it, for sure. You’ve seen my shoe, it’s gone straight through that.”
“Nothing else could cut like that. It’s like a knife. It cut straight through it. You can see that thin line, it’s exactly in line; cut there and cut there on my shoe and both straight through in an arrow-straight line.”
The UCI released a statement back in January saying those using the brakes must “ensure the perimeter edge of the rotor does not contain any 90-degree edges, but are smoothed or chamfered.”
And since cold water has since been poured on Doull's claim, the following video also supports those who believe disc brakes are safe.
