The riders hit the back of a moto on the packed climb and Froome had to run up it after breaking his bike; incredible scenes.
The Tour de France has witnessed incredible scenes this afternoon, with Chris Froome forced to run up a section of the final climb.
With the Mont Ventoux summit finish cancelled because of high winds, the revised finish – 5km down the road from the usual Ventoux conclusion – was packed with spectators.
It was so packed that a moto TV crew riding just ahead of Richie Porte (BMC), Bauke Mollema (Trek-Segafredo) and Chris Froome (Team Sky) became stuck and the riders hit the back of it.
Froome’s bike broke and so he began running up the climb to the finish just ahead.
Neutral service finally got a bike to Froome but it did not fit and it wasn’t until 500 metres to go that Froome’s team car got up to him with a bike.
However, he lost time and at the time of writing Adam Yates (Orica-BikeExchange) provisionally has the yellow jersey.
The stage was won by Thomas de Gendt (Lotto-Soudal) from a breakaway up the road.
Dan Martin (Etixx-QuickStep) has provisionally slipped to 9th overall.
More news when we have it.
