Only three stages into the Giro d'Italia and one of real favourites for a podium finish overall has abandoned after this crash.
One of the men hoping to finish on the podium at the end of the Giro d’Italia, Jean Christophe Peraud is out of the race just three stages in.
The French veteran – who had finish on the podium of the Tour de France in the past – came down in a crash at a roundabout with just over 100km remaining on stage 3.
The Ag2r man's injuries were such that he was unable to continue after the crash on the 190km stage from Nijmegen to Arnhem.
The 39-year-old was riding his first ever Giro and had said he was looking for a top 10 overall and maybe a podium place if things really went his way.
He had finished 2nd in the Tour de France two years ago.
