Video: Team Wiggins rider blown right off bike by TV helicopter

The off road sections of the race meant the riders were caked in mud by the finish, but one man was more "caked" than others thanks to the TV helicopter flying too low.

With plenty of off road sections to keep the riders in their toes, the Schaal Sels (UCI 1.1) one-day ace in Belgium is always a testing one.

Yesterday the 195km event starting and finishing in Merksem, Belgium, was won by Wout van Aert (Crelan-Vastgoedservice).

The cyclocross world champion put all his skills to good use to claim victory by just 15 seconds from Timothy Dupont (Verandas Willems Cycling Team) who led home a small group.

One rider who failed to make it to the finish was Briton Daniel Patten riding for Team Wiggins.

The 30-year-old looked dirtier that most of the others at the finish after he’d eaten the dirt when the TV helicopter got too close above him and blew him off his bike.

Only 46 of the near 170 starters were credited with a finishing position, Ireland’s Damien Shaw (An Post-Chainreaction) and Michael O’Loughlin (Team Wiggins) were among those who found the race not to their liking.
