Video: Sky's Doull shows injuries claims caused by disc brakes

Owain Doull says his shoe was sliced in a perfectly line, through his sock and skin and he believes only a disc brake could have caused the damage.

Owain Doull has shown the cut to his shoe, sock and foot sustain in a crash on the opening stage he says could only have been caused by disc brakes.

The Team Sky man says while Marcel Kittel (QuickStep) was the only rider in the field with disc brakes, he believes the German’s bike caused the damage.

“My shoe was cut to pieces; definitely a disc brake that has done that,” he said.

"It’s gone straight through the shoe into my foot, it’s lucky that’s not my leg to be honest.

"If that’d been my leg it would have cut straight through it, for sure. You’ve seen my shoe, it’s gone straight through that."

And he believes there was no other explanation other than a disc, added they should have covers over them and if one than one rider was using them the situation could have been much more dangerous.

"Nothing else could cut like that. It’s like a knife. It cut straight through it. You can see that thin line, it’s exactly in line; cut there and cut there on my shoe and both straight through in an arrow-straight line."
