He may be motoring on the bike at the moment, but Silvan Dillier had a champagne malfunction on the podium in China and end up on his backside. He took it well, to be fair.

Fernando Gaviria has taken his third stage win in succession at the Tour of Guangxi. He saw off Max Walscheid (Sunweb) and Magnus Cort (Orica-Scott) in the bunch sprint on stage 3 today.

Nicolas Roche (BMC Racing) finished in 39th place on the same time as the stage winner and race leader.

Roche is 17th overall, some 29 seconds down. However, he is one second ahead of everyone else who has finished in the bunch on the opening three stages.

That is thanks to a time bonus he took at an intermediate sprint yesterday.

His team mate Silvan Dillier has been very aggressive in this race and retains the mountains lead as well as 2nd overall and 2nd in the points classification.

The Swiss rider was entering into the spirit of things on the podium at the end of the day when he slipped and fell on his backside.

He took it well and had BMC Racing team mate Daniel Oss on hand to pour some champagne over him.

Tomorrow's stage 4 has an uphill finish that should shape the general classification and Roche will look to make his move there.
