Both junior riders who won the men's and women's world titles today suffered mishaps they overcame to take gold.
In the men's junior race this afternoon in Yorkshire, Italian rider Antonio Tiberi rolled down the starting ramp and was immediately in deep trouble, as the video below shows.
His bottom bracket appeared to malfunction and his bike was useless before he had even gotten away from the starting house.
As his team car was not set to slot in behind him until about 200 metres into the race, he had to freewheel up towards the car before he got a new bike.
He kept his cool remarkably well and he even had the presence of mind to pause for a moment until his mechanic took his bottle off his broken bike and put it onto his new one.
The Italian teenager must have lost 20 seconds at least and he was down by 16 seconds at the first time check. But he went on to close the gap on all of those ahead and won the title; a truly remarkable ride.
He also got held up a little by the team cars following some of the riders he caught along the way.
In the women's junior race, Aigul Gareeva (Russia) went off course at the end of the test.
She went the wrong way on the last corner and it took her a while to get back on track, but she too kept he cool and won the gold.
