Video: Sam Bennett crashes in sprint finish at Paris-Nice stage 3

Sam Bennett finished the stage but was in a lot of pain

Sam Bennett has crashed in the bunch sprint that settled stage 3 at Paris-Nice earlier today.

After a very hard day in the saddle, which took the riders some 212.5km from Chalette-sur-Loing to La Châtre, the stage came down to a messy sprint from a much reduced peloton.

Bennett’s Deceuninck-Quick Step had done a great job to
try and position the Irish rider for the sprint, though they got a little
swamped in the closing stages.

As Bennett looked like he was about to fight his way up
the inside of the group in a bid to win, Hugo Hofstetter (Israel Start-Up Nation) suffered a mishap.

His bike seemed to lock onto the bike of
Caleb Ewan (Lotto-Soudal) with both of them moving suddenly to the right and Hofstetter
taking out Bennett.

The Irish cyclist hit both the advertising hoarding on
the barriers and the tarmac at speed; an awful way to end almost six hours of
racing.
