Video: Sagan's & Cancellara's incredible bike control in Sanremo finish crash

These two short clips, one in slow motion, show the incredible bike skills of Peter Sagan and Fabian Cancellara in avoiding the finishing straight crash at Milan-Sanremo.

Given the number of hours they spend in the saddle racing and training, it's no surprise that most pro riders have absolutely incredible bike skills.

But even competing against other season professionals who can handle themselves and their bikes very well under pressure and at speed, Peter Sagan (Tinkoff) and Fabian Cancellara (Trek – Segafredo).

They both went into the near 300km first monument of the season, Milan-Sanremo, among the hottest favourites on Saturday.

And come the finish they were both in the select group sprinting for victory.

But when Fernando Gaviria (Etixx–Quick-Step) came down in a crash just head of them both showed awesome reflexes and bike control to avoid hitting the deck.

The first clip below shows the incident in real time – with Sagan and Cancellara on the far right. And the second clip is the first in slow motion; it’s well worth a look to fully appreciate the bike control on show - and after seven hours of racing.

In the end French sprinter Arnaud Demare (FDJ) was quickest to the line to take victory from Briton Ben Swift (Team Sky) and Belgian Jurgen Roelandts (Lotto Soudal).

Undoubtedly seriously hindered by having to battle to stay upright, world champion Sagan could only manage 12th while the master Cancellara was back in 31st, last man of those credited with the same time as the winner.

Ireland’s only rider in the race, Sam Bennett of Bora-Argon 18 finished in 129th, some 12:53 down.
