It's absolutely terrific to see some of our best Irish riders get this kind of treatment by the RTE TV crews. Let's home we have more achievements to warrant this kind of coverage. Above, Paralympic champion Eoghan Clifford in showbiz mode.
While Irish cycling had two nominations in the RTE annual sports awards at the weekend and came away empty handed, it was great to see some of our top riders get such recognition.
Eoghan Clifford won bronze in the C3 individual pursuit at the Rio Paralympics and then rocketed to gold in the TT.
And Katie George Dunlevy along with pilot Eve McCrystal won TT gold and road race silver in Rio.
They were in big company on the national broadcaster’s shortlist for sports star of the year.
And while UFC champion Conor McGregor came away with the award, the Irish riders were the subject of two very well put together highlights packages broadcast on the night.
You can have a look at those below. And in the final of the three clips keep your eyes peeled for Richie Byrne.
A huge figure and a man who burned bright was included in a nice tribute to the sporting greats we lost this year.
It was a super touch by RTE and one that reflected the popularity of the man and the significant role he played in developing the off road scene.
Some great footage and production by RTE
