RTE TV News has given Cycling Ireland's Zwift eRacing Series extensive coverage in a prime time slot.

The national broadcaster dubbed the series race on Saturday, round 3 of a 12-event series, as the biggest sports event to take place in Ireland on the day.

More than 1,000 riders signed up with top riders Imogen Cotter and Chris McGlinchey taking victory on the day.

The route took riders virtually around the streets of London over a 6-lap, 40-kilometre circuit.

McGlinchey took victory, for a clean sweep of all three rounds so far, in a time of 48:20 and Cotter was the top female in a time of 52:21.

Tour de France, Giro d'Italia and Vuelta a España stage winner Thomas De Gendt, racing from his home Belgium, finished in 8th place. Former international runner and Olympian Andrew Gillick also rode the event.

The eRacing has been organised on Zwift by Cycling Ireland as racing on the roads has been suspended due to the Covid19 crisis.

While the national governing body had been working in plans for eRacing, its new format of racing was launched almost immediately it became clear Covid19 was set to have a significant impact on the season.

Cycling Ireland is also running group workouts on Zwift with well known riders, including Grand Tour stage winner Nicolas Roche, leading the virtual group rides.
