There was a robust exchange between
two riders at the end of a sodden Münsterland Giro today after a late crash in the
race.
The race was won by Deceuninck-Quick-Step’s Álvaro Hodeg
but his lead-out man Florian Senechal crashed after
pulling off the front and brought others down at speed.
Team Sunweb rider Max Walscheid was 5th and when
he was giving an interview afterwards to German TV he appeared to be struck to
the head by a rider off screen.
Walscheid and Senechal they got into a physical tussle before
Deceuninck-Quick-Step riders intervened and the incident ended.
Senechal looked behind him just before he feel and appeared
to touch Walscheid’s reach wheel, sending the French rider crashing to the
tarmac.
It was not immediately clear of the row after the finish was
somehow linked to Senechal blaming Walscheid for the crash, even though the German
was not to blame.
Walscheid had won the race last year and Sam Bennett the
year before, though the Bora-hansgrohe Irishman was not in action today.
The only Irish riders in the race were Ryan Mullen
(Trek-Segafredo) and Conor Dunne (Israel Cycling Academy), both of whom were
non-finishers.
