Video: Riders have to be helped stay upright in high winds at Vuelta Burgos

These officials played a blinder at the Vuelta a Burgos yesterday when the riders faced extreme winds that forced some of them off their bikes coming back down the mountain

The riders at the Vuelta a Burgos faced a very challenging uphill finish to stage 3 yesterday, but for some getting back down the mountain was just as problematic.

After the stage was run off in very windy conditions, Remco Evenepoel (Deceuninck-QuickStep) powered clear of the other GC riders on the upper slopes of the 7.8km Picón Blanco, with an average gradient of 9.3 per cent.

Irish climber Eddie Dunbar (Team Ineos) was one of the riders who found the going tough and he lost significant time in the closing kilometres.

However, when some of the riders tried to cycle back down the climb towards their team buses and hotels, an exposed stretched on the mountain took some of them off their bike.

Today's stage 4 was underway at the time of writing and it was expected to end in a sprint finish, with overall leader Evenepoel's Irish team mate Sam Bennett at hot favourite for stage honours.
