Video: Rider wiped out by van instant after near miss with other driver

This rider is almost hit by one impatient van driver and then instantly taken completely out by another van at the same junction.

Here's a clip that really hammers home how aware you need to be of your surroundings when out riding.

It also demonstrates that even if you're in the right, you're going to come off second best when you hit a vehicle on the road.

The cyclist in this clip is riding down a straight stretch when two vans approach a T-junction to his left.

The first vehicle pulls out across the path of the fast approaching rider, perhaps underestimating the cyclist's speed.

The first van just about clears the junction and misses the rider.

But then the van behind overshoots the T-junction and drivers into the road, smacking the rider hard as he passes.

The cyclist is sent flying into the air as his bike hurtles away from him.

Moral of the story? Expect the unexpected and don't assume vehicles are going to yield or stop when they are supposed to.

You really need to factor mistakes and errant driving by others into the way you ride, especially if you’re moving fast out training.
