Video: Rás breakaway rider goes flying into ditch in descent crash

Ike Groen (Join –S De Rijke) got this descent very badly wrong yesterday and was lucky to walk from it relatively unhurt. The young Dutchman could have been seriously injutred, given the speed he was travelling at!

The An Post Rás has seen its fair share of thrills and spills so far this week and with three stages to go we are far from done yet.

Yesterday, on the fourth stage of the race we witnessed an absolute cracker as a five-man break featuring Irishman Bryan McCrystal (ASEA-Wheelworx) rode out front for much of the day in the break.

Also in that escape was Casper von Folsach (Denmark – Riwal Platform),  Ed Laverack (JLT-Condor Cycles)l, Nicolas Vereecken (An Post Chainreaction), Rasmus Mygind (Denmark Riwal Platform) and Ike Groen (Join –S De Rijke).

Anthony Walsh (Aquablue) was also there for a good spell before losing contact on the category one Ballaghisheen Pass.

And the break lost Groen on the other side of it when he overshot a bend and went head first into the ground.

Though to be fair to the lad he picked himself up, remounted and rode to the finish.

Here is a video he won't look back on with any fond memories.
