Video: Promo film of Sam Bennett and team he leads into Tour de France

Sam Bennett's team has named its line-up for the Tour France and released the promo video below about its Tour plans; with Bennett featured. Above, celebrating winning a stage of the Tour of Qatar in February.

 

While the other Irishmen in line to ride the Tour de France wait for confirmation on whether the will compete in the race next month and if they will lead their teams, Sam Bennett’s status has been nailed on for quite some time.

His Bora-Argon 18 squad said months ago that the Irishman would ride the Tour and that much of its efforts would go towards helping him try for a stage win.

Nicolas Roche and Philip Deignan are also in the running to ride the race for Team Sky, whose leader Chris Froome is one of the hot favourites.

Dan Martin will ride for Cannondale-Garmin, will news expected shortly on whether he will be the outright leader of the team or if he will share that role.

Illness forced Bennett out of defending the Rund um Koln one-day event in Germany the weekend before last and more recently the ZLM Toer stage race in Holland which ended on Sunday.

Before he was sidelined Bennett had been in great form, taking two stage wins and holding the yellow jersey at the Bayern-Rundfahrt last month in Germany.

His team has named its nine-rider roster for the Tour today and Carrick’s Bennett has been included, as expected.

The full line-up, with ages and nationalities included is: Jan Barta (30, CZE), Sam Bennett (24, IRL), Emanuel Buchmann (22, GER), Zakkari Dempster (27, AUS), Bartosz Huzarski (34, POL), Jose Mendes (30, POR), Dominik Nerz (25, GER), Andreas Schillinger (31, GER), Paul Voss (29, GER).

Along with Bennett, Nerz will also be a protected rider and will aim for a strong overall showing.

The team has also released this very slick short film previewing its second participation in the race, having also secured a wildcard entry last year when riding as NetApp-Endura.
