The police moto driver got a hammering in this crash; hitting a civilian car head on, wrecking it and getting thrown over the roof as the race continued.
The police moto driver involved in this crash was lucky to walk away from this one; hitting a civilian car by the side of the road. Hard.
The incident occurred at the Tre Valli Varesine race in Italy and the police officer was taken away in an ambulance with a suspected broken pelvis.
Road closures were in place along the route but clearly some civilian vehicles were moving about on the course.
And when the police driver came around a bend while descending he hit this car by the side of the road head-on, his bike doing a huge amount of damage to the vehicle.
The clip below from Eurosport shows the aftermath of the incident which had clearly just happened as the moto was still on the tarmac and the driver still stretched out on the road with the TV camera passed.
His motorbike was at the front of the car and the driver on the other side; the car in between the two suggesting the police officer was thrown over the roof of the car on impact.
The riders had a quick look at the mishap as they passed and continued on their way, with the race eventually won by won by Sonny Colbrelli (Bardiani-CSF) after 193km from Saronno to Varese.
He took victory in a sprint from a reduced group with Diego Ulissi (Lampre-Merida) 2nd just ahead of Francesco Gavazzi (Androni Giocattoli - Sidermec) in 3rd place.
He knew all about this one...
