Video: On-board clip shows cruel moment Irish juniors crashed hard at Worlds

Things are about to go very wrong for Ronan Tuomey, left, and Xeno Young in the junior men's road race at the World Championships. The pair were holding their own in the bunch when a touch of wheels ahead of Tuomey brought him tumbling down and he, in turn, fell into Young's back wheel.

Ronan Tuomey and Xeno Young were two of the many, many casualties from yesterday’s junior men’s road race in Doha after they crashed in the opening half of the race and never made it back to the bunch.

In fact, just 107 of the 180+ riders who started actually made it to the finish with crashes being the main reason for that.

Thankfully, we understand that all riders are okay and none are seriously injured - though there was concern for one Norwegian rider Ivar Knotten who appeared to collapse from heat exhaustion.

Tuomey took a severe bang to his tailbone and suffered a lacerated shin when he took a chainring to it following this smash while Young wasn’t as hurt.

He managed to get the speed down before he hit the deck and he bounded up immediately and went in pursuit of the peloton.

But that was always going to be difficult because of the speed the bunch were travelling at.

Just prior to his crash he’d spent a brief period off the front so to make another effort to catch a racing peloton would have been impossible, even for a man with his engine size.

This clip shows exactly how they hit the deck…
