Official movie trailer for 'The Armstrong Lie': "It's not about doping, it's about power"

Here's the official trailer for the new movie on Lance Armstrong; "The Armstrong Lie".

It has been made by film maker Alex Gibney, who has won Oscars for his work.

In 2009 when Armstrong came back to the sport to ride the Tour de France, Gibney decided to film the comeback; with access to the American.

However, while he knew of the doping allegations flying around about Armstrong and indeed put them to him on film several times during 2009, not even Gibney could predict the storm that was to follow, which resulted in perhaps the biggest fall from grace in sporting history.

The deposing of UCI president Pat McQuaid in Florence the week before last is, many would argue, directly linked to the hangover from the Armstrong affair. And such has been the impact of the scandal that the manner in which McQuaid’s successor Brian Cookson handles it will mostly likely define his term in office

The Armstrong Lie contains some great footage of Armstrong constantly denying the doping allegations, and even trying to slap down Paul Kimmage’s questions about doping at a press conference in the US where the American told the Irish former pro turned journalist that he wasn’t worth the chair he was sitting on.

All through filming in 2009, Armstrong continued to live the doping lie.

“He had lied to me, straight to my face,” Gibney says in the trailer.

“When the truth came out, I told him he owed me an explanation.”

That explanation came in the form of an extended interview to Gibney after USADA had done its work and the UCI had been forced on basis of that work to ban Armstrong and strip him of his seven Tour de France titles; among a large number of other results.

It's set for release in November in the US. We’ll keep you posted on release dates for the movie in Ireland.
