Video: US cyclocross champ in high-speed near miss with crowd

Gage Hecht pulled off this great save but his rival just behind was not so lucky as the video below reveals

He was the star of the Junior Tour of Ireland a few years ago and over the weekend Gage Hecht was crowned US elite cyclocross champion.

The 22-year-old has also taken some great pro wins on the
road of late and in taking his latest victory showed off all his bike handling
skills.

As the video below shows, Hecht was flying downhill in
the latter stages of the title race on Sunday when he lost control of the bike
for a moment.

He went through the crowd tape and almost hit some
spectators before getting back onto the course; all the while moving forward.

However, as he got himself back on track his rival Kerry
Werner (Kona-Maxxis-Shimano) was taken out when he became entangled in the tape
that Hecht had pulled out of position.

The flying Hecht brushed off the incident to win the race
by 17 seconds from Curtis White
(Cannondale-Cyclocrossworld.com).

However, Werner
was not so fortunate after his crash as he faded a little and had to be content
with 4th, missing out on a medal on the big stage.
