Video: New compilation of cycling "near misses" in Dublin traffic

The Irish Independent has published this video, on its website Independent.ie, featuring what it says are cycling “near misses” on Dublin’s streets.

There are undoubtedly some tricky moments in here when those riding bikes are lucky not to have been knocked off by drivers, including those behind the wheels of buses.

But other sections of the clip also show cyclists riding down the street with their hands off their handlebars or on pavements, with these incidents apparently counting as near misses.

However, aside from perhaps over reaching here and there, the clip makes very clear that some drivers appear not to really notice the cyclists.

Or if they do, they don’t feel much obligation to give them space.

The Independent.ie story states: "Our investigation found that Tara Street, O’Connell Bridge, Custom House, Leeson Street and the Quays were particularly dangerous areas for cyclists."

Have a look and let us know what you think. Typical of the mean streets of Dublin, or not even the tip of the iceberg of some motoring and cycling behaviours?
