It was like the opening of a major art exhibition when Team Sky unveiled its new kit for 2017; the biggest change of kit in look and designer since the team's inception.
Not exactly well known for being daring when changing kit from year to year, Team Sky has unveiled its new look for next season and surprisingly this time the team’s jersey looks quite different.
Castelli have come in as clothing supplier to replace Rapha and they’ve done a really nice job, even if the new look is not exactly radically different.
The kit features data patterns – broken lines/stripes - with each stripe on the jersey, short, mitts, socks and cap representing a specific Team Sky victory.
The longest lines are the four Tour de France victories, with Chris Froome's 2016 victory immediately below the Sky logo on the chest.
Team boss Dave Brailsford said he was delighted with the kit, which Philip Deignan will wear next year as the sole Irishman in the team now that Nicolas Roche has moved on to BMC Racing.
"We spent a lot of time thinking about our new kit and what we wanted it to represent visually,” Brailsford said.
“We wanted to find a way of celebrating the success we have had as a team, but also to make sure we keep our mind firmly on the future.
“As a team we still have an enormous amount of goals we want to achieve and, through the design of our new kit, those will always be at the forefront of our thinking.
"We've maintained the design elements which our kits have become well known for, such as the blue line, but produced something ambitious and unique to Team Sky.
"We're delighted with the results and we hope our fans will love it as much as the riders do."
