An incident hit the headlines when a woman who appeared to intentionally jam her car door into an oncoming cyclist, causing him to crash from his bike, escaped any form of sanction - and she seemed to celebrate that with friends on the footpath after.
It’s every cyclist’s nightmare; cruising down a street only to be abruptly halted by a door opened by a motorist.
It happens in cities day in, day out and it even happens in the biggest professional races – but it’s mostly unintentional.
But take a look at the video footage below captured on CCTV in Chicago where a driver wipes out an oncoming cyclist.
She then appears to celebrate her achievement with friends after she escaped any kind of sanctioning from a police officer who arrived at the scene.
The incident occurred this week and it has just emerged there was no sanction despite the pretty convincing footage. The Chicago Police Department failed to cite the driver for her actions.
Instead, she suggested giving the cyclist a ticket for not riding in the bike lane, though state law permits bike riders to use the same roads at motorists.
And when the dust settled and the police woman left the scene the driver of the car was seen high-fiving friends.
Take a look.
