The TV cameras picked up this incident and the footage has now been used to disqualify Gianni Moscon from the Tour de France.
Video Gianni Moscon disqualified from Tour de France
Team Sky rider Gianni Moscon, whose behaviour has made headlines several times in the past, has been disqualified from the Tour de France.
The Italian was seen in TV footage very early in today's stage having an altercation with another rider. The clip, below, has been used as evidence to disqualify him.
His exclusion comes as a blow to Team Sky. It holds the top two places overall with Geraint Thomas and Chris Froome.
And with eight-man teams this year, rather than the usual nine, Team Sky will really feel his absence in the final week of the Tour de France.
Gianni Moscon was disqualified from the Tour after commissaires reviewed the TV footage.
They did so with Team Sky personnel, including Dave Brailsford, present at the end of Sunday's stage 15.
On the stage from Millau to Carcassonne, Moscon appears to take his hand off the bars and take a swipe at Fortuneo-Samsic rider Elie Gesbert.

Moscon was investigated last year over allegations he deliberately caused Sébastien Reichenbach of FDJ to crash in Tre Valli Varesine in Italy last September.
However, the young Italian was later cleared after a UCI investigation.
Reichenbach alleged Moscon wanted to exact revenge on him over an incident earlier in the year.
Moscon racially abused Reichenbach’s team mate Kevin Reza at the Tour de Romandie in April, 2017.
And after the incident Reichenbach took to social media to highlight the incident.
Gianni Moscon disqualification after contract warning
Moscon was suspended by Team Sky over the racial slur and sent on a diversity course.
And the team formally warned him that any repeat would result in his contract being terminated.
Moscon was also disqualified from the World Championships last year. In that case he took a sticky bottle from the Italian team car; all captured on video from behind.
Rider and team car farcically continued the tow right into the start of the pits. Consequently, a very large number of people working on the race witnessed it.
