Here’s the missing final kilometres of the elite men’s road race at the World Championships in Bergen.

The TV pictures were lost as the Bergen Worlds race entered the final 4km, with just the static cameras at the finish picking up the action.

It meant TV viewers all over the world saw the race until 4km to go. But then nothing until the cameras close to the finish picked up the sprint.

Thankfully the footage recorded from the TV helicopter has now been made available so we can see what happened.

When the TV feed was lost, Julian Alaphilippe (France) was attacking Italy’s Gianni Moscon off the front. And Vasil Kiryienka (Belarus) and Lukas Postlberger (Austria) were also there.

But then the cameras working at ground level went down, the pictures being beamed from above were also not available.

By the time the riders came back into view the group was all back together at the Bergen Worlds.

Peter Sagan (Slovakia) would sprint in for a third title from Alexander Kristoff (Norway) and Michael Matthews (Australia).

The missing footage is also available at this link, in the event the clip disappears from YouTube, though it shouldn't.
