Video: Watch Dan Martin blitz rivals on summit finish (again)

Once again Dan Martin had too much for the best in the race on the summit finish, taking 2nd on the stage and jumping to 3rd in the final standings after a magnificent week.

Hard uphill finishes are something Dan Martin cannot get enough of and his ability to rocket away from the world’s best when the road really pinches is something to behold.

We saw him do it yesterday on the penultimate stage to Meribel and he was at it again today in the final run-in to the line in Supérdevoluy.

In his group are 15 of the best riders in the race but look at how Martin absolutely blows the thing to pieces with his acceleration.

His devastating kick is no secret anymore, hence how Roman Bardet of Ag2r La Mondiale was locked on his wheel but even he suffered like a dog to track Martin’s surge.

The stage win was already gone at this point but in the space of a few hundred metres before the line, the Irishman pulled a group away and put a five-second gap into the trio of Chris Froome (Team Sky), Alberto Contador (Tinkoff) and Rochie Porte (BMC).

And as well as that, for second on the stage Martin got a six-second time bonus which saw him leapfrog the latter on GC.
