An amateur race in Catalunya attracted an enormous field this morning, Wednesday, and was won in an absolutely massive bunch sprint.
Midweek bike races have just started up in Catalunya for the 2016 season and the second event in the Catalan Cup series took place in a town 50 kilometres north-west of Girona this morning.
Last week’s opener attracted 140 riders but today, Wednesday, saw a record broken for the number signing on with some 522 taking part.
Below is a video of the riders rolling out for the first of four 23-kilometre laps.
The average speed was a whopping 45 kph and as was the case last week, it ended in a bunch sprint (of sorts).
At €10 to sign on, that is a very tidy morning's work for someone.
Though the question must be asked; why aren't these riders at work?
If you listen to the commentary from the guy who filmed it (and can speak Spanish) he is saying “My God, look at all those people!
There is no truth to the rumour there was a big sign on the front of the lead car saying "Angela Merkel thinks we're at work".
Video, wait for it.....
