These are just being launched in Ireland and could prove a game changer, especially in towns and cities.
It’s just about to arrive on the Irish market. And if it caught on, it really could change the way we move around; especially in the urban environment.
The Airwheel is a self balancing electric unicycle; a wheel that can take you up to 23km on one charge at speeds reaching 18kph, the manufacturers claim.
It’s small enough and light enough to lift onto a bus or train and doesn’t require a drivers’ licence.
A rechargeable electric motor powers the wheel and the user controls speed and direction by simply leaning backwards and forwards.
It will have obvious adaptations for delivery/courier companies working in city centres and for moving around university and hospital campuses, large factories and other similar sites.
But it would also be ideal for anyone who does a lot of pavement pounding in city locations or with a long walk from home or the office to the nearest public transport.
The Airwheel is being sold in Ireland by Project 42, which styles itself a “high end technological innovation company”
