Tour de France winner in 1997, Jan Ullrich, has been released from police custody after his arrest following a dispute with a neighbour.

Ullrich, who also won Olympic road race gold in Sydney 2000, has had a restraining order imposed.

The incident occurred on the Spanish island of Majorca where 44-year-old Ullrich has been living in recent years.

Local reports stated the neighbour he had been in dispute with was German actor and film director Til Schweiger.

It appears he was holding a party at his home in Palma de Mallorca to celebrate the launch of a new film.

The gathering was taking place on Friday afternoon when Ullrich, who was not a guest, arrived and a dispute ensued.

However, reports in Spain said he was now the subject of a restraining order arising from Friday’s incident.

He was brought to court in a police van, covering his head with a T-shirt when walked past the waiting media.

And later when he was released from custody he engaged briefly with the TV camera crews. He said he had been held in jail and wanted to return home and to be left in peace.

Ullrich remains the only German to win the Tour, a race he was also 2nd in five times.

However, he was embroiled in a doping controversy and was excluded from the 2006 Tour because of links to the Operation Puerto scandal.

It centred on the activities of Dr Eufemiano Fuentes who gave illegal blood transfusions to cyclists as doping. Ullrich admitted his own doping in 2013.
